Jack Russell Terriers
I've been breeding Jack Russell Terriers since 1997. I've become aware of a condition that is apparently in the breed for which there is no genetic test at this time. It is called Primary Lymphangiectasia (PLE.) It has been diagnosed in several of my terriers over the years. Although uncommon I feel that PLE is often misdiagnosed in middle aged terriers resulting in cases being missed.
Because of the serious nature of this condition I am suspending my breeding program until a genetic screening test becomes available. There is a researcher at Michigan State University (Dr. Sara Jablonski) studying this problem...as well as how to best manage affected terriers so they have the best possible quality of life.
The vast majority of the terriers I've produced are healthy and happy and have lived (or will live) long happy lives. So many families have been enriched by these wonderful dogs. I'm saddened to have to make this decision but am working to provide information to the researcher mentioned above.
